Some Good Old Fashion Chick Lit with Lauren Weisberger's The Singles Game

I enjoy you Lauren Weisberger, not as much as Jane Green, but you're up there. There's something just so effortless about reading chick lit. I especially enjoy an easy book that reads like a screenplay or a movie and this definitely did. Besides it's only a matter of time before this gets made into a movie,(because every book does nowadays). I think Olivia Munn would be perfect for this role, just putting that out there Hollywood. Overall this book hooked me at the first chapter and kept me interested to the end. Sometimes with books like this I get bored about halfway through, but not here. Charlotte “Charlie” Silver has always been a good girl. She excelled at tennis early, coached by her father, a former player himself, and soon became one of the top juniors in the world. When she leaves UCLA—and breaks her boyfriend’s heart—to turn pro, Charlie joins the world’s best athletes who travel eleven months a year, competing without mercy for Grand Slam titles and Page ...

The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee or Another Disappointing Read

A Book that Came Out this Year: The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee Ugh what a downer. Usually I'll stop reading something if it doesn't grab me within the first 50 pages, and I didn't have to do that here because within the first 50 I was in. It was the middle 200 that really wasn't that great. The best way to describe The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee is to take Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner minus the breastfeeding and Mommy woes and add in an exotic local and kidnapping. Not that I don't love myself some Jenn Weiner, but I thought this was going to be 100% different. Damn you GMA, you pulled me in with a review and it was not like you said! Mercy, a young Korean American and recent Columbia graduate, is adrift, undone by a terrible incident in her recent past. Hilary, a wealthy housewife, is haunted by her struggle to have a child, something she believes could save her foundering marriage. Meanwhile, Margaret, once a happily married mother o...

Another Year Another Stephanie Plum

A Book From the Library: Tricky Twenty-Two by Janet Evanovich Fun Fact: I read all of the Stephanie Plum books in chronological order in about a month and a half. That took me all the way up to book 15 at the time. Now we're on 22. And while 20 and 21 sucked and really were just not worth it, I was excited to give 22 a try. Around page 5 I was hooked. It had allllll the classic makings if a good Stephanie Plum novel. For those of you who don't know Stephanie Plum is a former lingerie buyer turned inept bounty hunter out of Trenton, NJ. She's got a sidekick named Lula (who used to be a hooker/wears a lot of spandex), a hamster named Rex, a sorta bf named Morelli, and a side piece named Ranger. Oh and her Granny packs heat. Just a normal, typical 30ish year old woman. Janet Evanovich has created a timeless world where Steph never ages, somehow she still has auto insurance, and you can never decide between Ranger and Morelli. These books are also hilarious, ...

Summer Secrets by Jane Green **Warning Spoilers!**

Jane Green and her Chick Lit is my Kryptonite. As my BFF said "Just stop reading her!" I thought of course that's the obvious solution! Sadly though I am addicted to these books and I don't know how to quit them. Every time I finish one of her books I kinda feel like I just had a fling that I know wasn't good for me emotionally, but I did it anyways. This is actually my second JG book this year, I read Saving Grace in March and I'll be honest I didn't like it. As always with JG we have a flawed main character, Cat's major flaw is that she is an alcoholic, and a rather bad one at that. I'll admit that I wanted to give up on this book around page 70. I really just had enough with all of the women JG writes about. They're either depressed from pretending to be too perfect or have too many secrets that are poisoning them. It's a running theme in her books and maybe its my fault for always getting sucked in, but it did irk me a bit in the be...
