Best in Glow ~Sephora Play! November 2016

I've come to realize that Sephora Play is definitely my favorite box. I've already decided that I will be cancelling my Allure box and perhaps picking up Ipsy or another box, still undetermined on that. November was a pretty good month, I've actually incorporated one of the products into my daily routine, so I always found that to be a win. I'm not sure if any of these are standout winners in my yearly roundup of all the products I've received, but we shall see. For now, enjoy!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet (Full-size $39): Seriously I get way too many moisturizers in subscription boxes. This is something I would love to never get again. I've tried Vinosource before and it's a fine moisturizer, I just don't want to open it right now. Final Grade: TBD

Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink (Full-size $12): I'm kind of over the matte trend, so I'm happy to get a gloss. I like that they're including a Sephora Collection item in every box, because the stuff they sell really is fantastic. I rather like gel lipglosses, they have a softer, lighter texture on the lips (so gloss haters will like this) and I don't find it to be overly pigmented. I'm not super in love with the color, Barbie pinks aren't really my thing, but I like it on top of other lip colors I already have. I can see myself investing in a different shade in the near future. Final Grade: B

Top: LM Caviar Stick in Rose Gold Bottom: Sephora Ultra Gel in Pin-Up Pink
Glamglow Youthmud Tingleexfoliate Treatment (Full-size $69): I have now tried all but one (seriously in need of GravityMud!) of the Glamglow masks. I don't think this would be very good for sensitive skin as it does tighten a lot and is supposed to tingle, yet I felt no tingling. I can't say that I saw any immediate results (though I rarely do with Glamglow) and I don't feel like it's a favorite. I really haven't been into them as a brand. I don't think anything has ever really wowed me. Final Grade: C+

Cover FX Illuminating Primer (Full-size $38): I really like Cover FX as a brand, but I wasn't too excited to try this out. I have now tested it twice and it adds a subtle glow. I'm not brave enough to wear it on its own, so I've put a mattifying primer over it in my most oily of places. I definitely don't like it more than the Becca Backlight Primer that I got in my first Sephora Play box, but it's a decent primer. I think if you have dry, normal, or dull skin this could do wonders for you. Oily or combo skin types might want to stay away from this. Final Grade: C

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold (Full-size $29): I'm really not the hugest fan of these shadows. I was and then I used other cream shadow sticks and found this one lacking. It does not stay on my eyes and I find this rose gold color to be lacking. There are better rose gold colors out there that are less washed out. I haven't even opened this other than swatched it. I put it in my quick makeup drawer (daily rotation) but I would still never reach for it. Final Grade: C-

Fragrance of the Month: Stella McCartney POP (Full-size $25-92): I've seen this around for a month or so, but I've never smelled it. I actually really love Stella, which is her original fragrance and this one is also good. It has a really clean floral scent with a touch of sweet. I could see myself buying a rollerball in the future. Final Grade: B

Another month knocked out of the park Sephora! You really are my favorite box. I know that there isn't a lot of product variation, but I've been happy with the brands they've been choosing and now they're going to start tailoring to skintone and whatnot. Hopefully they can stay on top!

The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee or Another Disappointing Read

A Book that Came Out this Year: The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee Ugh what a downer. Usually I'll stop reading something if it doesn't grab me within the first 50 pages, and I didn't have to do that here because within the first 50 I was in. It was the middle 200 that really wasn't that great. The best way to describe The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee is to take Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner minus the breastfeeding and Mommy woes and add in an exotic local and kidnapping. Not that I don't love myself some Jenn Weiner, but I thought this was going to be 100% different. Damn you GMA, you pulled me in with a review and it was not like you said! Mercy, a young Korean American and recent Columbia graduate, is adrift, undone by a terrible incident in her recent past. Hilary, a wealthy housewife, is haunted by her struggle to have a child, something she believes could save her foundering marriage. Meanwhile, Margaret, once a happily married mother o...

The Pulitzer Prize Dilemma...

I've been having a hard time deciding on what to read in order to check off Pulitzer prize winner on my reading list. Originally I wanted to read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.  After some further research, I read a lot of reviews that weren't very kind about Ms. Tartt's work. And they weren't professional reviews either, they were just ordinary reviewers on Goodreads, because the professional reviews that seemed to only fawn over this book. I'm conflicted. I fell like I should at least give The Goldfinch a try, but it's a really big book. I have some backups A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr . I've just finished the 4th book in The Selection Series, so now I can focus on this daunting task ahead of me. Any suggestions if this doesn't work out? I'm open to non-fiction winners as well! UPDATE: Okay so The Goldfinch definitely did not work out. I think I'm going to go with A ll the Lig...

Terrible True Stories

Two books I read in January were both non-fiction accounts that were informative, sad, and grotesquely interesting. The first being Gracia Burnham's In the Presence of My Enemies , a terrifying recount of Burnham & her husbands time being held captive by an Islamic military sect, Abu Sayyaf, based in the Philippines. The second non-fiction novel was Jerry Oppenheimer's Crazy Rich: Power, Scandal, and Tragedy Inside the Johnson & Johnson Dynasty . I don't think it needs a one sentence summary because really we can all draw our own conclusions from that title. Photo Courtesy of Goodreads Quick Facts: Based on the true story of two American missionaries taken hostage in the Philippines. The Burnham's (Gracia & Martin) spent over a year in captivity. Rescue attempts along with the actual rescue were very botched resulting in the wounding of Gracia & the deaths of Martin, as well as one other remaining hostage.  Okay so that's not a lot of qu...
