Spring Awakening! ~April 2016 Birchbox~

April is the best designed Birchbox this year! Last year they teamed up with Rifle Paper Co. to create the design and it was gorgeous! Same as this year.  I honestly love this box and cannot stop staring at it! The contents of the box were underwhelming, but I did find something I really liked and the rest are all just great extras to keep for my gym bag. This month I remembered to keep the card, but I kinda like how I did it up last month, so we're gonna try that again.

When sample choice was announced I was very unimpressed. I didn't want any of them, but knew that I would like the makeup trio most. And while I did enjoy the lipstick and blush from the Au Naturale Mini Face Palette, the eye shadow was just kind of lost on me. It doesn't show up, even on the inner corner and its too sticky for a highlight. The blush is actually fantastic, such a great orange color with a heavy pink shift and the lipstick is sheer, but also nice. I'm kind of disappointed that I got another face wash in my box. While I've used and enjoyed Acure before, but the last face wash I got from them is still unused. Sorry Acure Pore Minimizing Facial Scrub its not you, it's me.

My next 2 products were a shampoo and conditioner. Which is what I got last month. I'm not liking this pattern Birchbox. While the Beaver Repair Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner is nice I would never seek them out. This is for dry or damaged hair, which I really don't have, but it hasn't seemed to weigh down my hair any. I appreciate natural shampoos, but they don't always do the best with my hair type. This one has a lather, so I felt it was easier to clean my hair. For the record I have terribly oily hair, so I could get away with using a clarifying shampoo every other day, but this cleans it up pretty well. The conditioner is alright, but using it on my roots was a no no.

Now for the real standout, Penhaligon's Levantium Perfume. This. Was. Delicious. I am so in love with this perfume, but there are 2 problems. 1. The sample is way smaller than typical perfume sample and 2. It's $170 for 100 ml (3.3 oz). Which I guess isn't bad, but that's a lot of money. I change my fragrance often, so I would have this for years. I typically like perfumes with absinthe, I had one not too long ago and it was also very yummy. God, I wish it wasn't so expensive. I still might buy it. Maybe.
The sample didn't come like that, I really dug my ELF Small Stipple brush into the blush.
Was this a good box? Eh kind of. I like that Birchbox focused on natural products and I enjoyed the shampoo & conditioner. The blush in the trio was fantastic, hopefully I'll be able to buy that separately because the shadow wasn't for me. I'm guessing the perfume will most likely end up on my vanity within the next few months, so it wasn't a complete miss. I also ordered 2 additional subscription boxes (Allure and a limited edition TopBox), just to try something different. We shall see how that goes. I promise more book reviews are coming. I have 3 on deck. I've been distracted, you know adulting. Sample choice is up for next month and I took the Vita Liberata Gradual Self Tanning Lotion because I'm of Celtic decent and need it. That's all for now!

I Live a Glam Life...Kinda ~ November 2015 Birchbox!

This month I decied to do something a bit different and get the Guest Editor or Curated box. It helped a lot that the box was curated by one of my favorite YouTubers Tati Westbrook! She along with Emily Eddington ( Emilynoel83 ) and Melissa Autry ( Melmphs ) are gurus I consistently watch. And by consistently watch I mean every week! I trust Tati, so I knew I would love everything in her box! Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum/ Full-size $36 This gentle, hypoallergenic hyrating serum plumps skin while promoting cellular regeneration. I was so excited to try this! Allure actually recommends this brand to girls like me with oily/blemish prone skin, so I couldn't wait to try! I agree taht its hydrating, so hydrating that I actually disn't feel the need to moisturize. Not a strong scent if any and just really great all around. I kinda litke it better than Shiseido Ultimune, which I just finished up. Final Grade: B+ Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo/ Ful...

Effortless Summer ~July 2016 Sephora Play~

We didn't get spoilers for this month's box until right before it shipped out. I'm not 100℅ sure of that reason, other than to torture us. The only clue we did have is possible spoilers and word that they were splitting up the boxes according to skin type (combo/oily, normal/dry). Knowing that I filled out my profile for oily skin and that even on my beauty insider profile (Sephora's rewards program) I'm listed as oily I didnt worry about which box I'd get. Until I checked my Play subscription and I got the normal/dry box. So yeah, here it goes... First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser (Full-size $20): This is something I've used before and currently own a full size of. This is a nice face wash. I like it during the winter to use after a workout. It removes my surface oils and dirt, but doesn't strip your skin. It's a bit like soap, so if you're not into facial soaps I would skip. I passed this sample along because I honestly didn't need it. ...

Memoir of the Sunday Brunch by Julia Pandl

Woo Woo 2014, a month late but hey I'm a busy girl. So I've tackled the first book of the new year and it was Julia Pandl's Memoir of the Sunday Brunch.   Pandl a stand-up comic originally from the Milwaukee area tells, personal family tales of her sweet, but often failed childhood memories. From being the youngest of nine to free child-slave labor at her father's restaurant. Told in two parts, the first of funny brunch serving, sibling squabbles, and a lot of twitching; The second of more recent memories of caring for someone who once cared for you. Photo Courtesy of Goodreads.com "I thought my dad was just like every other dad, until the day I worked my first Sunday Brunch" Be prepared for the second half of the book to shock you emotionally. It goes from a funny eye rolling recount of childhood, transitioning into being an adult child with rapidly aging parents. The second half was particularly heartwarming and sweet. Of course there's still som...
