February 2016 Birchbox!

Oh hey, its February the month of loooove and also time for another Birchbox! We're already going in the right direction with the design of the box. It is adorable! I think I actually have posts from how BB uses to come packaged, plain brown box with a pink logo, so these boxes are definitely an improvement. I like to collect them, well the cute ones anyways. This will definitely get put to some good use. As for the physical contents of the box I was excited upon seeing what I got when the spoilers came up. I mean 2 makeup items! That is a rarity, especially for me when I have gone without getting any makeup in my boxes. Mine tend to be very fragrance and hair care heavy.
I'm not complaining though, I'm happy with what I get. I'm thoroughly impressed by how far they have come as a brand. I've been a customer since 2012, so I became a member when they were still giving out nail files as samples. Yeah we've come along way. January was a good start, so let's hope we only build upon that! Now onto the samples!

Arrow REVIVE Cooling Cheek Tint- Berry Flush/Full-size $18
"This refreshing, oil-free gel formula tint sinks seamlessly into skin for a natural-looking Flush of color."
I like the color, I've been into berry blushes lately, so this is a win. The swatches stayed on for quite awhile, but I haven't gotten around to wearing it yet. I'm pretty awful at applying cream blush, or blush in general. I tend to be very heavy handed, so I'll def have to play around with this before it gets worn in public. Final Grade: TBD

Hey Honey Take it Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask/Full-size $29
"It brightens skin and promotes a clear complexion with alpha hydroxy acids to peel away dead skin and reduce wrinkles."
I'm a mask-a-holic. I will be the first to admit that I have a legit problem. I'm actually planning a trip to NYC, and found a store in Koreatown simply called, The Face Mask. Yeah I will be making a pilgrimage to there. Back to the review...Hey Honey was my sample choice. I remember seeing this brand pop up in a Glossybox last year and was jealous that my gift subscription had just run out. Now that I've gotten my hands on it and have tested it, it's just okay. I thought it was strange that it said to put on a light moisturizer on before the mask, and I should've. I could not get this stuff off my face! I enjoy peel off masks, but this was just a pain. I also felt like it did nothing for me. #NotImpressed Final Grade: D
ModelCo Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner/Full-size $20
"The neutral shade works with every lip color in your collection while making your lips look fuller and more defined."
I was excited that I got 2 makeup products in my box this month, buttt this is just okay. It is extremely dry. I mean I'm all for lip liner being a bit dry, because some of them are, but this is more so than usual. Maybe I need to play around with it more, but I wasn't into the feeling. It's also very warm, which is also something I'm not into. We shall see though. Final Grade: TBD

Not Soap, Radio Body Wash in Liquid Freud/Full-size $16
"Find your zen with this body wash of coconut milk, mango, and the calming benefits of St. Johns Wort."
I followed the instructions on the bottle, but I also used it on the coldest day that Massachusetts has seen since 1957. The bottle says to get deep and ask yourself some tough questions. The only question I was asking myself was how many layers I thought I needed for the day to survive. I went with 7 in case you were wondering. The smell was okay, the lather was so so. No soapy or dry feeling left behind. I wouldn't buy the Full-size, but I'm happy to try the brand. Final Grade: C+

Obliphica Professional Seaberry Serum (Fine to Medium)/Full-size $38
"Antioxidant-rich sea buckthorn berry, the anchor of this lightweight serum, helps to treat and repair dry, damaged hair."
This also got play on that cold Valentines day. I was dateless so I did not care how my hair turned out, as long as I dried it fast. I used both my PARLOR Leave In that I got last month and my Eva NYC Blow Dry Express (which is fabulous, you should try it) and then once I rough dried it, I put this in. I was surprised it was actually orange, but that didn't deter me. The scent was light and it seemed to sink right into my hair. I'm a hair oil user, so this step is nothing new to me. I've been enjoying the Beauty Protector oil, as well as my old standby of Ojon Damage Reversal, so this is a nice addition. Final Grade: B-

Sample choice for next month is already up and is extremely limited. They're offering 2 shampoos with conditioner packets and a dry shampoo. Extremely lame. The curated box looks nice, but I think I'm gonna go with the the PARLOR texturizing shampoo and conditioner. It's a brand new launch and I'm always up for trying out new hair products.  I also ordered a limited addition Birchbox, so I'm excited to get that and try the stuff out. I'm also excited to try out more from Arrow, because this is a line you're supposed to wear at the gym, so that may be a future post. Maybe if I wore makeup the gym I'd catch a new beau...or just break out from being a sweaty mess. That's all for now.

I Live a Glam Life...Kinda ~ November 2015 Birchbox!

This month I decied to do something a bit different and get the Guest Editor or Curated box. It helped a lot that the box was curated by one of my favorite YouTubers Tati Westbrook! She along with Emily Eddington ( Emilynoel83 ) and Melissa Autry ( Melmphs ) are gurus I consistently watch. And by consistently watch I mean every week! I trust Tati, so I knew I would love everything in her box! Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum/ Full-size $36 This gentle, hypoallergenic hyrating serum plumps skin while promoting cellular regeneration. I was so excited to try this! Allure actually recommends this brand to girls like me with oily/blemish prone skin, so I couldn't wait to try! I agree taht its hydrating, so hydrating that I actually disn't feel the need to moisturize. Not a strong scent if any and just really great all around. I kinda litke it better than Shiseido Ultimune, which I just finished up. Final Grade: B+ Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo/ Ful...

Effortless Summer ~July 2016 Sephora Play~

We didn't get spoilers for this month's box until right before it shipped out. I'm not 100℅ sure of that reason, other than to torture us. The only clue we did have is possible spoilers and word that they were splitting up the boxes according to skin type (combo/oily, normal/dry). Knowing that I filled out my profile for oily skin and that even on my beauty insider profile (Sephora's rewards program) I'm listed as oily I didnt worry about which box I'd get. Until I checked my Play subscription and I got the normal/dry box. So yeah, here it goes... First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser (Full-size $20): This is something I've used before and currently own a full size of. This is a nice face wash. I like it during the winter to use after a workout. It removes my surface oils and dirt, but doesn't strip your skin. It's a bit like soap, so if you're not into facial soaps I would skip. I passed this sample along because I honestly didn't need it. ...

Memoir of the Sunday Brunch by Julia Pandl

Woo Woo 2014, a month late but hey I'm a busy girl. So I've tackled the first book of the new year and it was Julia Pandl's Memoir of the Sunday Brunch.   Pandl a stand-up comic originally from the Milwaukee area tells, personal family tales of her sweet, but often failed childhood memories. From being the youngest of nine to free child-slave labor at her father's restaurant. Told in two parts, the first of funny brunch serving, sibling squabbles, and a lot of twitching; The second of more recent memories of caring for someone who once cared for you. Photo Courtesy of Goodreads.com "I thought my dad was just like every other dad, until the day I worked my first Sunday Brunch" Be prepared for the second half of the book to shock you emotionally. It goes from a funny eye rolling recount of childhood, transitioning into being an adult child with rapidly aging parents. The second half was particularly heartwarming and sweet. Of course there's still som...
