Get Pretty & Summer Ready with the Bella VoxBox!

Influenster! Free stuff yay! That's what I think every time I qualify for a voxbox. The Bella VoxBox is actually the first Influenster trial I have qualified for in about a year, the last was the Get Fit or Active VoxBox, which was just okay. How Influenster works is you post reviews on their website, and take small
surveys in order to build up your "Influencer Score" and once you reach a certain point you may qualify to participate in their pre-voxbox surveys. You then take that additional survey (which is tailored based on your score and profile) you are either in or out for that voxbox. This is actually my 5th trial, and it's been very fun for me to get back in the swing of tings with blogging and testing out new products. I promise you, it'll be worth it if you sign up for Influenster. They actually just redid the whole website, and voxbox program, so if you want to get in on all the good stuff they've got going on you totz should. Needless to say that this post centers around the new Bella VoxBox I received and the goodies inside!

EcoTools Complexion Collection Mattifying Finish Brush- $8.99
I'm such a sucker for makeup brushes, especially brushes that promise to mattify my terribly oily skin. I've actually seen this brush around before, but never felt the need to pick it up. I can tell you that I have used other EcoTools brushes in the past and do love them. They are very full soft, and I love their travel sized brushes for touchups, plus they come at a terrific price point and are often on sale at Ulta. First impressions of this particular brush are it's incredibly soft and almost duo fiber in texture/look, but I don't believe it is. The bristles are cut rather bluntly, especially on the sides of the brush. I've used this brush with setting powder both loose and pressed, and I haven't seen a difference
You can see the edges & how they're cut.
in it working better with any particular formula. I also don't think it mattifies my face any better than when using a compact sponge or other powder/setting brushes. If you're looking for a soft, effective, drugstore powder brush than I would recommend this, but if you are buying it purely for the mattifying purposes I wouldn't. Focus more on the product you're putting on the brush than the brush you're using for the product.

Dove Fruit- $1.88-2.69
Mmmm chocolate covered blueberries! I love chocolate covered anything, especially when it involves dark chocolate. I along with the rest of the testers received the blueberry flavor and they were just as delicious as anticipated. Since they were real fruit covered in dark chocolate I didn't feel too bad about eating the whole bag (in 2 sittings relax). For those who aren't into blueberries fear not, these also come in cranberry and cherry varieties as well.

Deja Vu Do Sytle Extender- $9.99 (full size)
I have tried style primer's in the past, ones from Living Proof and John Freida to be exact, but I wasn't super impressed with either of them.  I have used NYM before, it's a decent brand, their products tend to be hit or miss, but you can use your own judgement for that. The smell of this particular product
wasn't the greatest, but again not overpowering, so I gave it a go. The directions said to use about a quarter size dollop, but I went more dime or half a dime size because my hair is just extremely thin and doesn't take product well. I worked it through as the directions said from root to tip and concentrated on the areas that I get oily the fastest (closest to my hair line and my crown) and started to dry with a purpose. For my first go using it I didn't do a blowout or use any other products besides my L'Oreal heat protectant (my dictionary says that's not a word but it is in the world of beauty) spray. The scent really kicked into high gear while drying, and I have to admit I liked the result. My hair seemed to hold up really well, especially towards the end of the of the work day when my hair starts to look about 2 days old instead of washed that morning. The result for the following day was a bit better that I expected, but I still needed dry shampoo, especially for the hair right around my temples and bands. I feel that the product worked okay, if not the same when I did a blowout and styled my hair differently. If you have normal or dry hair I think this product is for you, but if you have oily hair that doesn't hold style, well you may find no difference.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara by Kate Moss - $6.99
I love Rimmel! It's honestly the best quality drugstore brand on the market. The Kate Moss line is what originally drew me to try Rimmel in the first place and I have not been disappointed since. I've
heard mixed reviews about this mascara from the beauty community, but hey I still gotta try it! The
brush as you can see is very chunky with natural bristles. The shape is S which is supposed to help bump up the curve on the outside and grab the smaller lashes on the inside. I have tried mascaras with S shaped brushes before and that Lancome mascara did not work out, (it was awful I'm not going to sugarcoat it) so I was concerned on that front. Typically I prefer black/brown or soft black mascara, but Rimmel only makes 2 shades black and very black. I really like this mascara, for me the finish is perfect. I'll admit the brush is a little tricky because of the size, so small eyes beware, but it worked out well for me. I did get a lift on the outer corner of my eyes and the effect was very elongating and full.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss - $5.49
Again another standout product from Rimmel that I absolutely love! I own about 10 of these lipsticks in both the regular formula and the matte. The shade I received was 112 which I've owned in the past, but unfortunately its not for me. It's a beautiful orange based coral, which is just too warm for my skin tone. These lipsticks have a nice feel on the lips, even the mattes (which people associate with
being drying, but not all mattes are created equal!). I prefer the matte formula to the standard lasting finish, but that's because I'm a matte lip girl! My one gripe is that they aren't long lasting as promised in the title. The mattes have better staying power, and sidenote they look fantastic under Rimmel's Stay Glossy Gloss'! In general I believe that Rimmel makes the best lip products high end or drugstore, they just do it right every time, including with this Kate Moss lipstick line!

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs- $13.99 (Full Size)
I haven't had a lot of time to play with this product yet because it just became non-tights weather around here (and to be honest I'm more of a pants girl). Good thing I have tried this product in the past and already own and use regularly. The shade I received was medium and it is the perfect shade for summer, when my skin tends to be a bit darker. For those of you who aren't familiar with this product or the new version of this product it is pantyhose in a tube. That is right, long before Lorac's the Tantalizer became all the rage or that Michael Kors leg shine there was Sally Hansen's 'hose in a can. Now the can is all grown up and out of the 90's and into adulthood and we now have liquid in a tube. The formula is quite thin and does look like self tanner, but don't worry it gets better. If using the product straight out of the tube scares you, my suggestion is to mix it with your regular body lotion. It will apply a little more evenly and you won't have to worry about tremendous streaks. Airbrush Legs still comes in the can as well as 5
Compared to the full size
shades to choose from. For me this product is most useful in spring and fall when it's not quite tights weather yet or anymore and you're a little shy about showing your pasty pegs off, this product will help.

Club W
We also received these subscription cards for trying out Club W, which is a wine subscription service. I've read good things about it from Mysubscriptionaddiction.com and they seem like a fantastic service, but I just didn't feel the need to sign up. The code gave you 1 free bottle of wine with the purchase of 2 others. For me I'm a Yellowtail Chardonnay girl all the way, that is my jam it has been since college, and that's when I actually drink wine (which isn't often).

Overall I liked this box, I thought it had a really good value, but again not everything is for me. I don't know when I'll get another box, but I'm greatful that I was allowed to particiapte in this program (Thanks Influenster!). That's pretty much all for now. Wait for my new posts this summer about my summer reading list!

The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee or Another Disappointing Read

A Book that Came Out this Year: The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee Ugh what a downer. Usually I'll stop reading something if it doesn't grab me within the first 50 pages, and I didn't have to do that here because within the first 50 I was in. It was the middle 200 that really wasn't that great. The best way to describe The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee is to take Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner minus the breastfeeding and Mommy woes and add in an exotic local and kidnapping. Not that I don't love myself some Jenn Weiner, but I thought this was going to be 100% different. Damn you GMA, you pulled me in with a review and it was not like you said! Mercy, a young Korean American and recent Columbia graduate, is adrift, undone by a terrible incident in her recent past. Hilary, a wealthy housewife, is haunted by her struggle to have a child, something she believes could save her foundering marriage. Meanwhile, Margaret, once a happily married mother o...

The Pulitzer Prize Dilemma...

I've been having a hard time deciding on what to read in order to check off Pulitzer prize winner on my reading list. Originally I wanted to read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.  After some further research, I read a lot of reviews that weren't very kind about Ms. Tartt's work. And they weren't professional reviews either, they were just ordinary reviewers on Goodreads, because the professional reviews that seemed to only fawn over this book. I'm conflicted. I fell like I should at least give The Goldfinch a try, but it's a really big book. I have some backups A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr . I've just finished the 4th book in The Selection Series, so now I can focus on this daunting task ahead of me. Any suggestions if this doesn't work out? I'm open to non-fiction winners as well! UPDATE: Okay so The Goldfinch definitely did not work out. I think I'm going to go with A ll the Lig...

Terrible True Stories

Two books I read in January were both non-fiction accounts that were informative, sad, and grotesquely interesting. The first being Gracia Burnham's In the Presence of My Enemies , a terrifying recount of Burnham & her husbands time being held captive by an Islamic military sect, Abu Sayyaf, based in the Philippines. The second non-fiction novel was Jerry Oppenheimer's Crazy Rich: Power, Scandal, and Tragedy Inside the Johnson & Johnson Dynasty . I don't think it needs a one sentence summary because really we can all draw our own conclusions from that title. Photo Courtesy of Goodreads Quick Facts: Based on the true story of two American missionaries taken hostage in the Philippines. The Burnham's (Gracia & Martin) spent over a year in captivity. Rescue attempts along with the actual rescue were very botched resulting in the wounding of Gracia & the deaths of Martin, as well as one other remaining hostage.  Okay so that's not a lot of qu...
