Quick Bites with Fast Girl by Suzy Favor Hamilton

I love a good memoir! Fast Girl: A Life Spent Running From Madness by Suzy Favor Hamilton hit the spot. Olympians are the coolest, I'm just gonna come out and say that. I have immense admiration for someone who dedicates their life to a dream that they can only make come true once every four years. I remember the name Suzy Favor Hamilton, but I don't really remember her as a track star like I do Jackie Joyner-Kersee. So I went into the book semi-blind. I knew the back story and why I was interested, but I still had a lot to learn. The former middle distance Olympic runner and high-end escort speaks out for the first time about her battle with mental illness, and how mania controlled and compelled her in competition, but also in life. This is a heartbreakingly honest yet hopeful memoir reminiscent of Manic, Electroboy, and An Unquiet Mind. During the 1990s, three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton was the darling of American track and field. An outstanding runner, a major s...

February 2016 Birchbox!

Oh hey, its February the month of loooove and also time for another Birchbox! We're already going in the right direction with the design of the box. It is adorable! I think I actually have posts from how BB uses to come packaged, plain brown box with a pink logo, so these boxes are definitely an improvement. I like to collect them, well the cute ones anyways. This will definitely get put to some good use. As for the physical contents of the box I was excited upon seeing what I got when the spoilers came up. I mean 2 makeup items! That is a rarity, especially for me when I have gone without getting any makeup in my boxes. Mine tend to be very fragrance and hair care heavy.  I'm not complaining though, I'm happy with what I get. I'm thoroughly impressed by how far they have come as a brand. I've been a customer since 2012, so I became a member when they were still giving out nail files as samples. Yeah we've come along way. January was a good start, so let...

Gettin' Witchy With It

An Autobiography: Melissa Explains it All by Melissa Joan Hart I am a Nickelodeon era child. I grew up watching Salute Your Shorts, Ahh Real Monsters and my favorite Clarissa Explains It All.  Fun fact: I dreamed of having a pet alligator named Elvis and crushed hard on Sam the boy who came through the window. Really Nickelodeon just really got kids back in the 90s. Don't get me wrong Disney did too, but Lizzie Maguire, and the The Famous Jett Jackson came wayyyy after. Wen I heard that Melissa Joan Hart was going to be writing a book I was like "uh yes please!" And then it took me almost 2 years to actually read it. I think we all know by now that I'm awful at reading new releases. Picking this up and choosing this as my first read of 2016 was the perfect choice! Melissa Joan Hart explained it all-from dating to bullies-in her groundbreaking role as Clarissa Darling on  Clarissa Explains It All . She cast a spell on millions more viewers as  Sabrina,...

Another Year Another Stephanie Plum

A Book From the Library: Tricky Twenty-Two by Janet Evanovich Fun Fact: I read all of the Stephanie Plum books in chronological order in about a month and a half. That took me all the way up to book 15 at the time. Now we're on 22. And while 20 and 21 sucked and really were just not worth it, I was excited to give 22 a try. Around page 5 I was hooked. It had allllll the classic makings if a good Stephanie Plum novel. For those of you who don't know Stephanie Plum is a former lingerie buyer turned inept bounty hunter out of Trenton, NJ. She's got a sidekick named Lula (who used to be a hooker/wears a lot of spandex), a hamster named Rex, a sorta bf named Morelli, and a side piece named Ranger. Oh and her Granny packs heat. Just a normal, typical 30ish year old woman. Janet Evanovich has created a timeless world where Steph never ages, somehow she still has auto insurance, and you can never decide between Ranger and Morelli. These books are also hilarious, ...

Prepare Yourself for the Feels!

**Warning: Spoilers!** I love a good cry. Sometimes its just good to let it all out. Room by Emma Donoghue definitely did it for me! I've passed this book a dozen times and never thought to pick it up. I think it was the cover. I judge every book by its cover and the simplistic nature wasn't for me, but when I beard they were turning it into a movie I decided to give it a shot. And I am so glad that I did! To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, one that r...
